Victoria Azarenka granted a one-time waiver

The WTA has granted a one-time waiver to Caroline Wozniacki and Victoria Azarenka to play in the World Tennis Charity Invitational in Thailand on Sunday, January 1, 2012. Normally, players are not allowed to compete in exhibitions during tournament weeks where there’s a Premier level event occurring like the one in Brisbane, which runs Jan. 1-8.
However, WTA spokesman Andrew Walker told Daily Tennis News that because that “100% of the proceeds will be donated to support victims of the terrible flooding in Thailand, along with the fact that the exhibition will use non-traditional scoring” the waiver was granted. Thai legend Paradorn Srichaphan and No.18 John Isner will also play the exhibition.
Azarenka is not scheduled to play a tournament that week, while Wozniacki is going to play another exhibition, the Hopman Cup, in Perth, that week. She is not scheduled to play until Monday evening. All the WTA players who choose to play the Hopman Cup will be fined, but sources have told DTN that the tournament itself will play the fines itself.

Paula Radcliffe spending on Olympics opening

Radcliffe hits out at 'frivolous' extra £41m spending on Olympics opening ceremonies
Paula Radcliffe has labelled the decision to double the budget for the London 2012 opening and closing ceremonies as ‘frivolous’ and suggested the money could have been better used elsewhere.

The Government revealed on Monday that an extra £41million of public money is to be put into the ceremonies to go alongside cash from the London organising committee.

jockey Hayley based in the United Kingdom

Hayley Turner is a professional jockey based in the United Kingdom. She was born on 3 January 1983.
Turner is widely considered to be the first woman to achieve a sustained, day-in, day-out, successful career as a professional jockey in the UK[citation needed]. Kirsty Milczarek and Cathy Gannon are the two other female jockeys currently riding in the UK who have come closest to following Turner's achievements[vague]. Hayley Turner's success has seen an enormous increase in the number of female apprentice jockeys riding in the UK in the second decade of the 21st century[quantify].
She became the first female rider to ride 100 UK Flat race winners during a calendar year (a huge achievement for any rider), when winning on 'Mullitovermaurice' at Wolverhampton on 30 December 2008. 2008 also saw Turner ride in over 900 races in the UK - one of only five riders to achieve the milestone that year.
The 2011 Racing season has so far seen Turner ride at least her second highest tally of winners, putting her on track to beat her personal record of 100 winners in a year. Also, in January, Turner had her first race-rides at the Meydan racecourse in Dubai, as part of the annual Dubai Racing Carnival. In July 2011 Hayley rode her first Group 1 winner, Dream Ahead in the July Cup at Newmarket, and repeated the trick the following month winning the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes on Margot Did during York racecourse's Ebor Meeting.
